Training: Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and the National Opera Studio, gaining awards from the John Scott and Peter Stuyvesant Foundations. Opera and theatre include: As well as working abroad, Margaret has played leading roles with British opera companies English National Opera, Scottish Opera, Opera North and Carl Rosa Company, including Donna Elvira and Zerlina in Don Giovanni, Fiordiligi and Despina in Così Fan Tutte, The Queen of the Night and Papagena in The Magic Flute, Adina in L’Elisir D’Amore, Alice Ford in Falstaff, Musetta in La Bohème, Ninetta in The Love for Three Oranges, Rosalinda in Die Fledermaus, Clarice and Flaminia in Il Mondo Della Luna for the Buxton Festival and Opera Theatre Company, Dublin, and Oriana in Amadigi at the Opera Comique, Paris. She starred as Susan Cooper in the British premieres of Kurt Weill’s Love Life, Mary Turner in Gershwin’s Of Thee I Sing and Vava in Shostakovich’s Paradise Moscow (all Opera North, recorded for the BBC). Carlotta in The Phantom of the Opera (Her Majesty’s), Bacchae (NT and Epidauraus) and Hanna Glawari in The Merry Widow (Carl Rosa tour). Film includes: The Phantom of the Opera as The Confidante and singing Carlotta, over-dubbing for Minnie Driver. Radio includes: the leading role (and vocal backing track) for Swallow (Radio 3 Wire series). Recordings include: the film soundtrack for The Phantom of the Opera, voiceovers and she will be singing on the CD which accompanies the updated version of the 1950s children’s television programme Muffin the Mule, emulating the original presenter, Annette Mills. She regularly performs both here and abroad on the concert platform, covering a huge range of vocal material, from opera to jazz. |
