The Sound of Music - Christopher Blades

Training: Royal Academy of Music in London and in Rome with Tito Gobbi.

Opera includes: English Music Theatre’s Death in Venice (Aldeburgh, Royal Opera House), Maggio Musicale in Florence (Paul Bunyan), Brussels Opera, Scottish Opera, Wexford Festival and Opera North (Tosca and The Magic Flute), Glyndebourne Festival Opera (John Christie Award) and Glyndebourne tour (The Marriage of Figaro and La Bohème), La Fenice Venice (Curlew River), Auckland Opera New Zealand (The Marriage of Figaro). Also Carmen (Earl’s Court) and singing Escamillo opposite José Carreras on tour in Japan and Australia. He sang and directed productions of Tosca and Madam Butterfly on extensive tours of the India, Nepal, Sri Lanka and the Yemen.

Theatre includes: Amadeus (Sheffield Crucible), On the Razzle and A Patriot for Me (Leeds Playhouse), Alice in Wonderland (Lyric, Hammersmith), Carousel (Royal Exchange), The Phantom of the Opera (Her Majesty’s), Street Scene (Palace), Jekyll and Hyde (tour).

Christopher was assistant director for Andrew Lloyd Webber’s 50th Birthday Concert (Royal Albert Hall).

Recordings include: Tubular Bells (Mike Oldfield) and Wozzeck.
